Morgellons and Detoxing Your HouseA Reader's Personal Story
Remediating parasite and 'body bugs' from the skin environment, as well as household environment, is one of the greatest challenges for the folks in the Morgellons community. For those who suffer from the presentation of the body bugs, they live in an emotionally maddening world of biting, stinging, creepy crawly sensations.
Below is a story, that many will relate to, from a family who employed bio remediation techniques and a parasite cleanse about 4 years ago and is still clean and symptom free to this day. Please remember that professional guidance is the safest way to employ any kind of recovery program. If you are not skilled and competent, the Healing Grapevine, recommends hiring professionals for this remediation process for your home. Should any individual choose to use these suggestions, the responsibility for all the outcomes is solely that individuals and not the Healing Grapevine Team.
With that in mind, we hope all our readers find their way to recovery as well!
Jill tells the story of 'How I Got My House Back'.
I believe we were exposed to this by sleeping in a motel room that had been infested with 'bugs' by a sufferer who was possibly trying to get rid of this 'plague' by motel room hoping, which is very common, so is house and apartment hoping...all of which leave the contagion behind for the next family.
The night in the motel room, I felt biting sensations all over my body and the next morning I complained to the management about fleas, which was what I thought was in the bed.
We returned home thinking no more of it, until a month later when my husband, two children, and I broke out in a rash. We went to the doctor and were given antibiotics which did nothing and the rash steadily spread. We were then told it was scabies, and were given permethrin, which also did nothing. Then our doctor became very evasive and didn't want to help us further.
During these months I was frantically cleaning walls, floors, everything we sat on, touched, and wore. We had plastic covering our car interiors, borax in our carpets, and plastic covers on our beds and sofas. We began experimenting with vet grade medications because by this stage we were feeling creepy crawly biting sensations and itching which almost did drive me crazy along with this, we started seeing black speaks and noticing small colored fibers associated with our skin rashes.
We no longer associated with friends or neighbors and I can honestly say it was the most frightening, lonely and isolating experience imaginable. It didn't help matters that I finally had done my own research and come to the unimaginable, unbelievable conclusion that my family might have some freaky genetically engineered crazy disease that was only just emerging...
I have always been a religious person, but by this point my faith was all that sustained me. It got me out of bed each day and it kept me fighting. I felt that some how, some way, we would get through this. Maybe a 'cure' would not be the answer, but that we could have a life, and that my children might have some kind of a future.
It was about this stage that I was directed to Trisha Springstead's site www.espbotanicals.com.
I do believe she was instrumental in our recovery. I still use her skin care products almost 4 years later. I took her advice and began to use only natural products to kill the mites and collembola that were swarming our home and bodies.
Here is a list of the products we personally used. In the end it wasn't very long or complicated, but it was our personal way out, I don't believe that everyone's fight will be the same.....but this is what we did:
We used a product called revoxil from www.healthwalk.com which was excellent and taken internally as a strong parasite cleanse.
ESP botanicals skin care for our rashes and to remove the mites and critters from skin and hair (used twice a day).
Orange plus or orange oil and hydrogen peroxide to spray on surfaces used daily.
Along with this we heat treated our homes.
There has been a lot of TV coverage on the bed mite and bed bug epidemic and these documentaries talk about heat treating the environment to kill bugs as all creatures will dehydrate and die at high temperatures. Personally I found out about heat treating from someone on the bird mites forum. A few people were doing this with varying success and it works for mold removal.
This strategy is most effective in combination with non-toxic detergent/household cleansers, here is more of a list: ESP botanicals, borax, mule team, white vinegar, grain alcohol (not isopropyl), Dr. Bronners, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, etc. on your surfaces and for your skin.
How long does it take?
It all depends on how consistent you are, and that you reach optimum temperatures, otherwise it will actually make matters worse as what ever type of parasite that is plaguing you may have laid eggs in your environment. Moderate heat will cause a hatching and so you will feel an increase in activity unless the heat is hot enough to kill. You have to use thermometers to make sure the coldest point in the home reaches a high enough temperature (180 degrees).
For us this was done in the middle of winter and so it would be easier to achieve in warmer months.
It entailed heating our 1500 sq ft home using two 155,000 btu propane heaters to reach 180 F for at least 4 hours. We did this every Saturday for three weeks until the mites were gone from our furniture, carpets, walls, appliances etc. We also used a less powerful heater to heat treat our cars on the same day. We did a total of 5 heat treatments to make sure that they were all gone.
Of course there is a safety issue to this, and so it is something done carefully with full awareness of fire danger and at your own risk. It's not recommended to use any more powerful a heater than 155,000 btu either, and of course you should sit it on cinder blocks or something inflammable, away from cloth and drapes.
This type of heat treatment will create a gradient of heat in the home so its a wise idea to move electronics as far from the heat source as possible. Put precious items in the furthest room from the direct heat source. And definitely do not leave perishable items in the house, everything melts or dies at these kinds of temperatures.
As far as pets in the family go, we were not able to personally keep ours. We found an understanding vet who put them in quarantine for 6 weeks, and treated them with ivermectin. We then placed them in a home and are in contact with their owners and have heard nothing but good about how they are doing.
After the first treatment the improvement was immediate, but by about day 3 they seem to be coming back again. Either we were re-infesting the house (which I think was the case) or they were coming in from outside. So we repeated the heating again and there were 5 days of peace.
We repeated it again and we were able to go the entire 7 days in peace. There should be an improvement week by week, but of course after having had this for 6 months we wanted to make sure. So in answer to your question, you want to go by how the environment feels to determine how many weeks you need to do it, could be more, could be less.
An important note that I remembered is, on the day that you use heat therapy, open up all draws and closets, and use fans positioned in hall ways to help get the heat around and into areas, especially were you have your clothing....also the heating should be in addition to the regime of environmental cleaning; continue to vigilantly clean during the week with what ever methods you have been using, and continue to keep all clothing CLEAN and only used once as you don't want to be re-infesting your self.
The heating was for us, a total kill, but you still carry the 'bugs' and so are the ones re-infesting the environment, its important to be very, very clean during all this, showering twice a day with the ESP soaps. Your body and home have to catch up to each other....this could be another reason why it may take a little long for different people in different levels of personal infestation.
This will definitely not work if you do half way. Treat house, cars, storage areas, people, pets (if you keep them) at the same time or you will just pass it back and forth.
One way to tell that its you and not your home anymore - when you go into previously 'problem rooms' like the laundry area and don't feel an increase in bug activity the room is clear.
I believe that what ever vector bit us in the motel room, may or may not have come home with us in our luggage. I think that we may have had a combination of bugs plaguing us as with this condition (Morgellons). Each time you leave your home you may be adding to the burden.
There are mites everywhere, there is collembola everywhere. Colembola is found on things that are decomposing. As we slowly got better, and detoxed with the help of Trisha's products we were able to slowly stop the attraction. That is the reason I still use the ESP daily, because there are a few times now and then, particularly after I have been around alot of dirt and foliage, that I have a familiar sensation of a few bugs on me, it's hard to explain unless you have experienced it.
This has only happened a hand full of times, but I still have some ability to pick up mites. I have also noticed odd things like common ants swarming my foot when I was sitting outside one day, and I have been bitten twice by lady bugs.
I hope others find this useful and I know that to many people, what we did will seem to simplistic. I don't believe that we are 'cured' but I do know that we have been well for 4 years with no symptoms of illness at all, I just hope that your article can give people some hope and some options to think about trying.
Thank you and God bless for your help.
